Whether you're one of the sort what takes an old tractor and fabricates N' mods or a purist/traditionalist what wants everything OEM/stock, there are going to be occasions in the maintenance/restoration and repair process that heat has to be applied on the tractor, adjacent to surfaces that you want/feel necessary to protect. Here's one clever, affordable & smart way to protect your tractor when applying heat:


Thus far, I've run across nothing easier/cheaper/more affordable nor better performing than DIY Homebrew "Starlite" (TM).

Since the inventor has passed to the other side of the Veil (and wisely did not trust commercial interests to maintain his secret formula) the original recipe has long since become unavailable to the GP, but there are many variations in reverse-engineered DIY recipes that are quite effective and helpful in the repair process:
