Thank you for all of the advice in response to my "Bendix keeps breaking" post below! It led me to the conclusion that I need a new 12V starter instead of the 6V that is currently on it. Since I have to replace the starter anyway, I'm wondering if it is worth an extra $100 to buy a "gear reduction" starter as opposed to the traditional "direct drive" starter? Do any of you use a gear reduction starter? I saw one mentioned by The Old Hoakie below and have read that they cause less damage to the fly wheel and are much more dependable than the direct drive. If $100 extra dollars will likely save me future headaches and additional repair costs, I'd like to go ahead and pull the trigger. On the other hand, if there are risks to a gear reduction starter that I have not read about, I'd like to know that. Thank you in advance for your help!
