The typical (universal???) gear failures in a Howard take out all three reduction gears. The mating edges of the three reduction gears get chewed up. Some suffer more damage than others but it's usually pretty uniform. Here is a picture of a typical Howard failure showing two of the gears. How does yours look compared to the picture? Outside of finding a salvage unit with good gears (not likely) replacement gears are not available. I have priced making those gears and in quantities of 10 sets of three gears each maybe $800 - $1000 per set. For a single set you will pay considerably more. They are compound assemblies with multiple features that render them hard to make.
