I was over on YT perusing articles concerning leaking sediment bowl and saw some 2017 comments Bruce (75 tips) posted. Nice thing about having an old antiquie tractor, advice/information remains a constant.
8N Ford tractor's fuel sediment bowl began leaking a couple of days ago, so I hit-up repair forums and began exploring options. Took everything apart cleaned, and lo and behold! ... can actually see inside of bowl lol ... sadly it remains leaking.
Bowl didn't seem to have any nicks nor cuts or anything, and I couldn't find any other rough surfaces, & thick cork gasket appears in good shape.
One absence: screen of any sort associated with sediment bowl.
Screen/gaskets seem to be affordable enough, however, some forum posts cautions concerning "offshore products" being "almost right", gaskets too thin, screens not fitting, etc ...also cautions voiced concerning gasket sealer causing sediment bowl leaks?
What do you folks think about smearing some red RTV silicone on top of cork gasket, where it mates up? Could using RTV sealer potentially cause a leak? idk how ... How important is having screen?
Ford OEM gasket online looks like it was made of rubber, but unhappily comes sans screen. Seems like one could purchase screening and cut out their own? idk where best purchase, avoiding "almost right"? lol ...
