An N can not break a modern, manufactured boom pole. If it is a home built pole then all bets are off.
The photo shows my cheap King Kutter boom pole behind a 4000 with added front weights. The tractor itself weighs about double what an N weighs and you can see the pole is well over loaded.
I don't recommend you lift like this every day but you won't hurt the tractor over lifting with it. You just wont be able to steer - except with the brakes, as your front tires will leave the ground.
There are a couple of ways to increase lifting capacity with a pole. Both involve keeping the load as close to the tractor as possible.
First, shorten your top link as short as possible. Second is to lift from halfway up the pole.
Front weights will increase lifting capacity too. Use front wheel weights or in a pinch, a couple of sand bags draped over the front axle.
I suspect your N will handle that big block engine just fine if you keep the pick as short as possible..
