Earlier this year I performed a tune up (points, plugs, condenser, rotor, cap, new wires) on my old 1950 8N (side mount dist.) and it ran like it hasn't in years.
Unfortunately it didn't last long. I was driving it back after grading my driveway when it started sputtering and missing. After parking it I started checking for obvious things such as loose plug wires, or perhaps points had shifted.
I was surprised to find the rotor broken inside the cap. It was a cheap Asian make but I didn't expect that. I had another so I put it on and it broke on start up. The points were fine.
I bought an American made rotor, installed it, and crossed my fingers. It started and ran, no breakage, but now misses slightly, has low power and will only run in first gear without killing the engine.
I need some advise on where to look next...Distributor?
Thanks,
Bob
