Newbie on here so dont put much weight in my comments...but I just removed them from my 8N yesterday and the open end was down. Seemed to make sense as the upper side should stay locked in the spindle housing??
Couldnt resist commenting as all I have done is post questions, never had an answer for someone (and it could be wrong)
