HiYa Dan, welcome aboard. OK, let's start with an 8-Volt Battery. Why? You don't need it. How do you think you can charge an 8V battery on a 6V charger? Next, you need a 'float charger', not trickle charger. Get a DELTRAN BATTERY JR. after you switch to a GRP 1 AG 6V battery like DEKA, PENN/DURACELL, or INTERSTATE. Your AMMETER reads backwards because you are feeding the wire the wrong way if using the OEM Induction/Loop Gauge or if using an aftermarket two-screw terminal unit, have teh wires crossed so simply reverse teh direction or wire or switch teh terminals and you're all set. Best tool to invest in is teh ESSENTIAL MANUALS so get them if not already in your shop. Go to HOW-TO's/Electrical for Wiring Pictograms by JMOR to download a copy -it's free. There's much to know about your N, electrical/wiring, specifically the front mount distributor as it can be mystery to those who don't know how Ford did it since 1932. 9N/2N electrical, after s/n 12500 are: 6V battery; 1-Wire/3-Brush 11A Generator with the "A" Circuit Design and a BELT TENSION DEVICE; Round-Can Cutout Circuit; 1-Wire Starter Motor with NO SOLENOID; AMMETER; Ignition Key Switch; Starter Push-Button Switch; Ballast Resistor; front mount distributor; and all wired for 6V/POS GRN. Start here.
