installing tach on 8n/ setting rpm

Hello all, I have a early 1950 8n that doesn't have a proof meter and I was wondering can I hook up a proof meter or a tachometer to it? Would the governor already be ready to hook it up? What I am trying to de is read the rpm's so I can set the carb properly Thanks guy's for any help
