Assuming you are talking about a front mount distributor? It's a tight fit but it'll come off once the large spring clip is removed. Try gentle, even tapping from behind on the cam/weights. Housing is aluminum and plate is steel so can't be rusted on -UNLESS you have one of the optional cast iron distributors offered since 1943.
