We got almost 2 feet of snow this week in northern Michigan providing a good opportunity to put the 8N with Arps half tracks to the test. I found the tracks did well and only sunk about half way to 2 thirds into the snow while the front wheels sunk down to the hubs pushing the snow and making snow balls in front of the wheel which put a big drag on performance. I experimented with adding weight behind the tractor by putting cement blocks in my Dearborn scoop which helped the front end float a bit better, but front wheels are obviously the week link. I have seen some videos of Ferguson tractors with Arps half tracks and skis and they were doing much better in the deep snow. Anyone out there have experience with half tracks and deep snow? I got it stuck in a deep snow drift last year and spent the better part of a day digging it out. Problem with this set up is if I get it stuck there is nothing that can come to my aid and pull me out.
