stupid question, torque values

I am curious , I have a torque wrench. I also have air impact gun rated at 450lb. My torque wrench does not go to 450lbs, So if I wanted to torque my rear axle nuts etc, are we talking the same torque values here? I know before I took a socket & a johnson bar and what all I had was a 3 ft pipe extension on the bar and with all my might tightened the nuts.
I know it sounds stupid , but ?
