Gary,
The only way you can find parts by not having a part number is by knowing what part was used on many other vehicles at the same time era. It's not easy but it can be done. For instance I used to have a 63 Chevy pickup until about 2 years ago that I rebuilt and these trucks used the same parts for many years, some not many parts were also used on 70's and 80's year trucks.
