Yep, did not really sound like a shim issue. Just went out and looked at my 8N. It has new axles and hubs. The correct washer and nut. A couple threads sticking out past the nut on each side. You may want to replace your axle and or hub. A worn axle and or hub will let the nut back up. The rear wheel will fall off. Which is not a good thing. I have seen several jack leg repairs people have used to keep from buying parts. The best/funny repair was welding everything.
