Dave I have removed many a nomenclature plate in my days. I applied many hundreds more in the form of company asset tags. Most are attached with 3/32" fasteners called drive screws. Most drive screws can be pried up and out with a tough bladed pocket knife. If they refuse some times tapping the head lightly will help jar them loose. Pry them out just enough to get a small pair of vice grips on them then pull and twist till removed. If that fails then use a small grinder like a dremel to remove the head, don't grind the tag just down close to it. Once the tag is removed there usually is enough of the drive screw left to get the grips on. if that fails then drill out the remaining drive screw with the correct size drill for the replacing drive screws and you should be good to go!
