I agree with you, 100%. What bothers me about how our flag is flown is that so many people who have the responsiblity to display the flag, do not know the proper way in many situations.
When I was still working, a window in our office faced the flagpoles in front of our building. Security was in charge of the flags.
There were a number of times that I called security to correct what they had done. It was almost funny. When I told them my name their response was, "John, what is wrong with the flags now?"
It can be confusing when the display includes the flags of other countries, on flagpoles of equal height. The proper instructions are very specific but it was obvious that either the person raising the flag/flags was not informed or had not been given proper instructions (or both).
One that still bothers me is flags that are enormously too large for the pole the fly on. Another is flags that are very tattered and are still being flown.
