i restored a woods rm500-2 finishing mower intending to use it with my 1948 8n only to realize that the front caster (gauge) wheels on the mower were too close to the back wheels of the 8n and would hit and jam the wheels if the implement was lifted more than 6 inches. In order to use the mower I can either take off the front gauge wheels on the mower or keep the mower on the ground without raising it, Does anyone have alternate or bettert solutions. Is there a way to extend the length of the lift arms without cutting and welding, Other ideas?

Won't work for a restored mower, but I ended up welding extensions on my mower for the front 3 point pins to be a few inches ahead of where they were originally, moving the whole mower back that far.

I bought a new RM500 some years ago that I use on my 8N. It came with 2 rear caster wheels and limiting chains to control how low you can set the mower.

the check chains mount just above the 3 pt hitch pins on the mower. The RM500-2 parts book shows 7/16 x 1 1/2" bolts there and 1/4" proof coil chain x 32 1/2" long. They mount to the tractor by 2 special links that mount below the center link mount with a 3/4 x 6 bolt. I can scan some of the parts book if you send your email.

thanks Tom. I think i figured it out. im still going to have to shorten the Pto. Im a little disappointed i cant use the front caster wheels but the chainb setup sounds like the right fix.

You can remove the front gauge wheels and add limiter chains to set the mower front height.
