  • Battery Water
  • What is the best to add to a 6 volt battery? Drinking water, distilled water or what?

  • In the old days they said to use rain water in the battery. Why don't you take the battery to a shop and have it tested first before just adding water especially if it has been setting idle for a long time without a float charger. An old battery might not be any good anyway. How are the cables?

  • I usually have 5-6 gallons around from the de-humidifier. I store it in old anti-freeze containers w/ a duct tape label.

But the bigger question is........why are you adding water? What is the voltage output of your generator/alternator?

  • Thanks Bruce. Brought the battery home from my daughters 2N to charge it. Don't know the voltage output of the generator.

  • No v/r on a 2N. So it's overcharging and boiling the battery.
