Running Smoothly Again
It is interesting how your mind can convince you that you know something, when it isn't true.
I've been maintaining the family 2N (that my grandfather bought new in 1945) for 30 years, and helped maintain it since I was old enough to hand a hammer to my grandfather. In that time, it always messed up the TV reception with the wire-core spark plug wires.
Lately, it has developed a scattering misfire. I tuned up the distributor and replaced the spark plugs, but that didn't help. A couple of the spark plug terminals looked pretty rusty and wouldn't snap on tight to the spark plug terminal, so I decided to replace the wires.
When I removed the first wire I noticed that it had a carbon-core! My father must have replaced the wires some time before I started doing all the maintenance. That means the wires were over 30 years old.
I would never have guessed that the wires were carbon-core!
