Subject: 601 workmaster 1957?

  • My new to me 601 workmaster has a fireing prob been changed over to 12 volt, stoped running ck,d fire from coil nothing ck,d coil it was dead,the old one has on the side (no restior needed) put a new one on still no fire from coil found that the key switch fell apart wired around it still no fire ck,d all connection nice clean an tight the coil should jump spark from the coil wire to ground but nothing outta ideas help me my mind an body at 71 yrs cant do this any more haha thanks

  • A working coil will "fire" if it receives primary voltage (12v in your case) and you interrupt that voltage. Check the primary voltage and verify that it gets interupted. Put your spark checker on the coil and you can confirm the coil is good.

  • have power going to the + side of coil nothing from the coil to the spark ckecker its been too hot here in mid tn an i have shingles so its hard to stay with it like i use too this should be easy for me but have to walk away

  • Is the power at the coil switching ON/0FF when you crank the engine over?

    Is the power sufficient to illuminate a 12v bulb?

    If its not switching the points are not opening.

    If it wont illuminate the bulb you have a problem in the primary circuit.

    If all of that checks and the coil is good you should get spark.
