  • 8N camshaft thrust washer
  • Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knows of a place I can find a camshaft thrust washer/spring for my 8N. Itís a front mount distributor. The tractor wasnít running when I got it and there wasnít one in there. There is no wear on the gear or the housing but I have no idea how long it was running before it was parked. I was thinking of making one out of a piece of delrin but before I embark on that adventure I figured I would ask. Thank you.

  • If you get a washer make sure to check the fit. I recall it is a stamped, sheet metal part. The spring "fingers" can be set too far out causing too much pressure on the cover. The result is a damaged cover and metal shavings in the system that ruins the crank bearings. Set the springs to position the washer to just touch the cover. From my experience, may yours be different...

  • Also, "fingers" face cam, not cover.

  • Correct on the orientation (fingers to CAM).

The one I got was powder coated. I wonder if that was part of the problem as the powder coated wore off, maybe in chips that caused other issues, so I sandblasted and cleaned it to bare metal the second time around.

  • You can get it from your local New Holland dealer or online.

Some folks are of the opinion that you can run without one, so it's your choice.

  • I expect that such opinion exists because the washer didn't exist from 1939 until 1949.
Thus leaving only about 500,000 tractors without one such washer!

  • Ok thanks. I ordered one and they show zero available. Hopefully they can find one somewhere.
