  • Timing a Side Distributor
  • I have a 8N that has a 9N engine on it. Someone has replaced the front mount distributor with a side distributor. Since it's a 9N engine, it does not have the access hole on the right rear of the engine to see the timing marks on the flywheel. I'm pretty sure it's out of time. My question is, what is the procedure to set the timing on this? Thanks.

  • Look in the howtos to find a way to add timing marks.

  • Try your original owners manual

  • Easiest is by ear/trial & error. I used the #4 "on the rock" valves position to determine #1 TDC-compression stroke and filed a notch in belt pulley that aligns with engine block casting feature. Based on circumference, you can then mark off various degrees on pulley.
