  • Coil spring seat on 2N
  • Did the 2N have an optional seat whereby there is a coil spring under the seat and a shock absorber to the rear? Iíve seen pics of similar ones with shock pointed forward from the seat.

  • Thanks Ed, your post on the 2N seat was the one I was trying to find. Not a big fan of the design, kinda makes it hard to mount the tractor

  • There was also the Knoedler Seat as an aftermarket option that also used a large spring but no shock absorber. The only new parts that you can get, or could get, is the bearing. I think Steiner had them. There are two documents in the howtos here ---here's one.

  • Here is some info from the manuals section here on the seat. The 9n and 2n used a different style where the shock absorber was in the rear. You removed your original pan seat and installed it on the new EZ Ride seat.

  • If you have that BIG spring like the one in Carl's link and it's just to weak, They sell them on EBay, says it fits Some farmall's and some ford tractors . Don't buy it, I did and it was so stiff I had a hard time getting the shock bolt in, Had my 300lbs. friend sit on it to get the bolt in then it was so stiff you couldn't even use it.

  • Yes Dave the Monroe EZ-Ride seat was only rated for 150 pounds payload. The Knoedler was a little better and then the Ford Rest-O-Ride was better yet. All required that you remove your tractor standard OEM pan seat and install it on the new model. It seems to me that half the problem with the seat is sitting on that solid steel pan. The spring on my N's works fine and I use a foam-padded FORD logo seat cover and it helps.

  • I saw where someone customized his E-Z Ride by putting a playground ball inside the spring to stiffen it some. Don't know how well it worked but would be easy enough to try.

  • It was a dealer accessory item called the Monroe EZ-Ride seat.
