  • Engine Oil Leak from Proofmeter Cable Port on Hydraulic Pump
  • Hey Gang,
My 800 is leaking engine oil from the proofmeter cable connection on the hydraulic pump. Not just a few drips, more like a small stream coming down the bellhousing that leaves a puddle on the ground after parked. I can't figure out why the oil would leak from this spot. The cam gear would obviously be slinging some oil around in the front portion of the hydraulic pump, but it should be able to drain back to the sump freely.

Any thoughts on what would cause this?

    Thanks,

    John

  • I would agree with TOH as oil leaking by the seal would be more of a spray than splash oil from the gears and it would mix with the engine oil off the gears. That could explain the color of the oil. It is also common for the pump shaft to have a groove worn into it where the seal rides.

  • More likely leaking hydraulic oil caused by a bad shaft seal in the pump.

  • I'm pretty sure it is engine oil based on the color. And wouldn't a hydraulic leak just go into the crankcase?

No more so than engine oil. All I know is that seal is known to leak and you seem to be getting a lot of oil. That seal would be my first suspect. The pump is easy to remove and inspect.
