  • Ford 2N starter post replacement
  • Hi guys. I am about to attempt something I am a little nervous about. I have ordered a new post for a 2N starter. I am a am not sure about the soldering. The old post is stripped and I cannot tighten down the cable. Any tips would be appreciated.

  • It takes a LOT of heat to solder that, at least a 200 watt iron to do the job.

  • I would use a plumbers propane torch to heat up the joint for soldering.

  • Try looking for a "Starter lug stud repair"

  • Some place you might be able to find a "Bolt on starter stud repair".
I had a machine once with one of those.
    Worked fine.

  • I think the repair kit would be great if the bus bars were still soldered well in place. They are also broken loose. Between stripped threads and needing to be soldered, I believe it is best to go new.
