Gear / transmission growling noise
I have a 1941 9N that seems to have more growling noise when moving coming from the transmission. Is it the nature of the beast to be that noisy? The fluids are all up to the correct level. My neighbor has an 8N and I drove his, seems to be about the same.

Re: Gear / transmission growling noise
The early 9Ns had straight cut gears that where changed to helical cut gears in the 2Ns and 8Ns. The straight cut gears are noisy. Mark

Re: Gear / transmission growling noise
I believe, the early 9N's ran straight cut gears and by mid '39 they were gone. I could be wrong. If the noise goes away or diminishes with your foot on the clutch, trans main input shaft bearing. If noisier with foot on clutch, clutch release bearing.
