I have two M&S carbs that are identical to each other. Except for some reason the studs on rebuilt one are a touch wider and will not fit into either of my manifolds. Does anyone know how this happens and how to fix this problem?

    Than you

  • Here is some hopefully helpful info on the M-S carbs that came on N's from the factory:

  • Thanks Ed,
After looking at your info and looking at carbs most mysteries solved. Of course the rebuilt carb with the wider stud spread is missing its tag. The side of the bowl does have a 20 E stamped on it. The other extra carb I have is a TSX 458 (ferguson/massy)massage. The carb original to my 51 8N is a TSX241B. I was looking to switch carbs because of poor running condition. Start right up at 1/4, run OK, increase throttle and die. Made adjustment, run ok at 1/2 throttle. Put in gear, release clutch and die after moving 3 inches. Made one more adjustment after researching info on here. Starts right up, runs good in all throttle ranges, but need 3/4 throttle to make tractor move. Seems to me that's awful high RPM's to have to run at to get the tractor to operate. Any thoughts?

  • Have you overhauled the 241B? We have a great tutorial in our How-To's library that will walk you through it, step by step.

  • If you can see the carb part numbers on the metal tabs, compare them to the ones in this information from our Manuals library.

  • The wider span is for another engine, could be a later Ford. M/S built over 450 versions of the TSX carb for dozens of engine makes. They all look somewhat similar but can be very different.
