  • Jubilee Running Rough
  • After rebuilding carb, adding new rotor, dist cap and plug wires, spark plugs #437, the #1 cylinder not producing. I have spark to the plug, but no power from it. Pulled plug wire from #1 spark plug and runs as rough as when it's plugged up. Tractor sits a lot and is used to spray round up.

Have not had time to do compression test. But noticed after pulling the new plug, it's wet.

    Any ideas appreciated.

  • You crossed an ign wire. Plug is wet due to trying to fire at wrong time.

  • Tyler, I have exactly the same problem with my Jubilee only on Cylinder #3. Quirky--dead or misses at low rpm but runs like a top in a hard pull. Have switched plugs, wires, cap and rotor, and it stays with Number 3. Converted it to 12v and electronic ignition 12 years ago but it just started this last year. Like John, if you find out what your issue is, please post it!!

  • If it was running fine before "tune up", my thought would be to move that plug to a different cylinder and see if the problem follows it OR, just try a new plug on that cylinder.
I have a Jubilee that runs fine but that could change anytime. It does sit a lot. I would like to know what you find.

  • Probably wasn't running well b/4 tuneup. I remember adjusting main needle and nothing happening. Wasn't running on #1 cylinder then but I was getting a jolt when removing #1 plug wire off plug while tractor running. Figured it was time to replace wires, cap, etc. The old plug was wet then. I assumed not enough spark on that cylinder cause the wet plug.

I have the plug wires at 1,2,4,3 corresponding to the #1 mark on distributor cap. Will check things out more when I have time. Tractor is at farm 110 miles away.

Thanks for the tips in advance.

  • My procedure for compression test: Two tests, dry and then wet. Dry: Remove all plugs; move throttle to wide open. While holding compression gage tight in #1 spark plug hole, hit starter button and hold it for 5 compression strokes and record the reading after the 5 strokes. Do the same for cylinders 2, 3 and 4. Put the readings in a column on sheet of paper. Now do the wet test.
Wet test: Ad a couple squirts of engine oil to number 1 spark plug hole. Throttle lever at wide open. Hold gage and push and hold start button for 5 compression strokes. Record the reading of 5th stroke and record it on the paper next to #1 dry reading. Do the same for each cylinder.
Report back in a new posting what you find. You will get good responses back.

  • Tyman, do you run the carb dry before turning her off to store her, or drain the carb so the fuel isn't sitting in it for more than a month or so? Or, do you use something like Stabil?

  • Carb is dry when stopped. I do that with all my tractors. Also use K-100 gas treatment along with non-ethanol flavored gas.
