  • does the distributor drive camshaft gear get pressed on with a certain location on the camshaft? thanks

  • Steve, there is a lot of good information in the How-To's Forum here - SEE link below for bushing removal. The original Operator's Manual and the I&T FO-4 Service Manual have chapters on performing a tune-up and setting the timing correctly. New partS are available from JUST8N's and DENNIS CARPENTER. The new bushing, p/n 8N-12120, $5, may need to be reamed after it is pressed in. A press fit is .0005" so have you 0-1" micrometer out. Reamer may need to be found at a machine shop. The 8N side distributor is different than the one used after 1953 so be sure to get the correct parts.

  • I suspect the dist drive gear is molded into the cam and the dist drive gear is retained with a roll pin on the bottom of the dist.

    I bet if you research a new replacement cam it will come with that drive gear molded in for both the early and late 8N engines.
