  • NAA clutch squeal when pressed
  • I've got a Ford NAA Golden Jubilee tractor. It's a great tractor. Last time we were on the tractor, we noticed that when we pressed the clutch it would make a squealing noise. It still seems to work but I don't feel comfortable driving it without knowing why. I've seen some internet results mentioning cold weather and such, but we're in the middle of a Louisiana summer (aka HELL). I'm seeing things also about the clutch lining, the bearing, etc. How difficult are those to repair? How expensive? It hasn't been setting up for a while, in fact it was working fine earlier that day. We put it away for a couple hours to cool down (us and the tractor). Next time we got on it, it was squealing.

  • Both following issues in Neutral position
Foot on pedal and noise is the release bearing (Throw-out)
Foot off pedal and noise is the trans main input shaft bearing.

Noise as long as the operator is talking is a jet pilot.
At least with jet engines you can turn those off.
My aviation joke of the day.

  • Sorry, I'm a bit of a tractor "newbie" and so I am a bit confused and would like to ask for more clarification.

The issue is happening when we hit the clutch from any position - if we're driving and decide to change gears and press the clutch, it makes the sound. If we're cranking it (which it would be in neutral for cranking) and pressing the clutch, it makes the sound. If we're stopping to turn on the PTO and have the clutch pressed, its making the sound. So it would be foot-on-pedal, right? The release bearing?

Is that a difficult fix? No tractor shops near here will touch the tractor seeing as it's older than most of them.

  • Sounds like throw-out bearing is failing.
