  • Grooming / Finishing Mower attachment
  • Good morning guys,
I am looking for a good quality finishing mower attachment for my 1941 9N, I recently bought a farm house with an acre and 1/2 of property, I know that I would not be able to go larger then 5 Ft due to the weight of it, what would you guys recommend in terms of specs and brand/model
I would like to get something that is made here in the USA if possible.

    Thanks!!

  • I ran a 6' King Kutter finish mower behind a 2N for several years and thought it was an excellent combo. I would not want one narrower.
Also, as said, you do NOT need to use an over running clutch (ORC) with a finish mower. The only implement you need to use an ORC with is a bush hog type mower.

  • For a 9N, I would go for a four footer instead of a five foot cut, especiall for only 1.5 acres.. I have a five foot mower( Ford) for my 1940 9N which is pushing it to its limits and making the experience less enjoyable.I wish I had a four footer..

  • Farmer Brown, why in your experience is the 5 ft less enjoyable, is it because it is too wide?

  • I'm running a 6' King Kutter finish mower behind my N tractor for about 10 years now without a problem. I'm pulling it now with a '39 9n. I did add a 6 blade puller fan and shroud

  • I think Woods makes good products. If your 3 acres is wide open, the Woods will work well. However, think ahead and determine if you will be planting trees and shrubs or other landscaping.
Early on (40 years ago) I was using my 1971 Jacobsen built Ford 100 lawn tractor with 42" deck. It did good until I added acreage.
I then had a used Woods RM600, 6'cut behind my 8N and later my Jubilee for my 3 acre lawn area and paths around my other 14 acres. However, between planting many trees and selling 14 acres, it became very time consuming because I spent more time trimming around everything.
2 years ago I bought a Gravely ZT HD 60, 5'zero turn, for my remaining 3 acres. I use mulch around all of my trees and Roundup for house and barn foundation and 600' of wire fence.
For the money and the time, my experiences would take me to a zero turn allowing for future lawn changes.
    Whatever you decide, have fun.

  • TK60.20 from Woods would meet your requirements.

  • Thank you so much guys, I really appreciate your suggestions, it has given me lots to work with and think about.
Have you also had to fit an over run coupler to the pto shaft to prevent it from moving forward after stepping on clutch?

  • My experience has been that a finish mower does not have the centrifical force to make an ORC necessary because of the shorter blades, unlike a brush mower that can (& has!) put you thru a fence!
