  • Changing gear oil…which to choose.
  • 1952 Ford 8N. I just checked my gear oil and it appears slightly yellowish on the dipstick. It has been about five years since changing it last. I checked at my local hardware store. They have five gallon buckets of two different ones. An 80-90 gear oil and one marked TDH which says hydraulic/ transmission I believe. Old memory? The TDH is slightly more. Can someone give me some advice? Thanks Dave

  • Tractor supply also sells a 90 weight GL1 gear oil for Ford 8N and 9N tractors. The normal GL4 and GL5 series gear oils are said to have anti wear additives that attack brass.

  • Hi Dave, I've got a '51 8N and I've always run the Universal stuff from Tractor Supply; haven't had any issues with it, it's always run good for me. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/traveller-premium-tractor-hydraulic-fluid-5-gal-t806391

  • Thanks Travis. I will stick with that. Too many unknowns with the other. Dave
