1952 Ford 8N sputtering on hills!
Tractor starts and runs just fine. On the level everything is AOK. As soon as I hit a hill (in high gear) it starts to sputter and lose power until I pull the choke out a bit and then it runs along fine. I expect it is carburetor related? Ideas? Dave

Missing under load? If so, suspect weak ignition. Inspect plugs, points, cap, rotor, and PLUG WIRES. Above assumes adequate fuel flow to carburetor. Never look to carburetion until confident that ignition is spot on.

Thanks Dean. I have cleaned the fuel system. I will take it for a drive tomorrow morning. Ignition will be next on your recommendation if it persists. Dave

Re: 1952 Ford 8N sputtering on hills!
I have managed to do a lot of maintenance which had gotten ahead of me. So, taking one thing at a time I bought a set of points. Before installing the new points I decided to check the gap on the ones in the tractor. They were set at .010-.012! They are supposed to be at .025”. I reset them at the proper gap and it seemed to run better so I went to a steep hill nearby in third gear at idle and it went right up with no sputtering. Happy here!

That will cause weak ignition, a prime cause of misfire under load.

Yes Ed, I always try to have a conclusion. So many post here and never show a conclusion. One of the two forums that I check every morning to see what is new. I always get reliable help here. Dave
