  • Love Disc???
  • I've been told the disc in the attached pictures is a Love disc but I don't know for sure. I can't find a tag on it. It's what I call a tube disc.

  • Yep , LOVE disc . I have 2 sets of them, both badly in need of total rebuilds > I may just make one good set from the two .It seems my working abilities aren't as good as a few years ago , so if I can at least get one working disc in nice condition , I'll be happy happy happy (as Phil Robertson says) .I have some fair literature on the LOVE disc if needed .In the searching I've done on the LOVE disc , every ser I've been able to track down & speaking with the owners , not one set has a name plate on them . But every set has the appropriate holes in the frame where a tag could have been or was supposed to ne attached . My one set actually had the small round headed rivets ib the two holes . Makes me wonder why all the disc I've located are untagged . Did they have a tag theif , inventory shortage of tags , or did LOVE just over look having tags made ? It appears to have wooden bearings on the hubs . Most of mine appear to be either worn out or missing .So as I mentioned to Tim , I'm trying to find a wooden bearing to use as a pattern so I can turn some out . Not sure what wood to use (possibly hard Maple or Walnut). What's your thoughts ? God bless , Ken

  • Hi Ken,
I have a couple of pieces left from an old Love disc. There was not much left of it when I bought it - 2 gangs were completely gone, etc. I just bought it for the disc wheels as spares. Most of the rest of it I scrapped except for one piece of the main frame I kept because it still has the Love tag on it.
If you (or someone else)were interested in it for a resto/refurb on your Love I would give it to you.
It is up north at my land and I wont get up there till May when I go do my spring plowing but If you reminded me then I could bring it down with me.
It's been 8 or so years since I even looked at it but I'm pretty sure it is still up there.
    Email is open.

  • Back after WWII there were three tractor companies in Michigan that produced tractors for the orchard industry, tractor accessories and implements. These firms were Hart, Love and Friday. Love as I remember was bought out by Friday Tractor and merged with them. These names were all well known in grove and orchard localities and their history is quite well documented.

  • Yes, Eau Claire, Michigan is in the area of grape vineyards and apple, peach, and pear growers. The late, great Carl Davis was from there. Thanks for the added info, John.
