  • Ford Tractor Motor ID?
  • There was an old tractor motor left at our place when we moved in 33 years ago. The motor has been sitting outside under an eave so it is partially protected from the weather. Lately I've gotten curious about this motor and took a closer look. There is an ID # on the left side of the block: A2677808 and on top of the motor there is the Ford logo with USA under the logo. There are 2 steel pedals attached to the left rear side and a broken pulley or PTO on the lower front. There is also a bell housing attached to the rear of the block. There are 4 Wards spark plugs screwed in place on top. I doubt the motor will turn over. I have pics but don't have them posted except to my computer. Can anyone help me identify this motor?

  • Thanks for emailing the pics. The engine is a Model A Ford. That explains the A prefix. I don't have info on Model A's but I'm sure a web search would reveal its build date. Model As were built from 1928 thru 1931. SoS

  • Duh on me. I see where you posted a ID number. I dont understand the A at the beginning of it, but the sequential number of 2,677808 indicates the motor was built on May 14 1918, and was in a batch of 200 engines for the Long Island assembly plant.

  • Further research reveals that Ford of Canada had exclusive rights to build exports. The A would indicate that engine would have been produced for Australian market but the 2 million sequential number doesn't fit in owing to the Australian bound production for Model T ended in 1927 with motor number 742600. This engine is indeed interesting. Pics !!!

  • Not a tractor engine but a Model T Ford engine. It should have 3 pedals. If you can read the motor number on the left side of the block on a machined pad, I can possibly tell your the year it was built. Pics would be nice to see, especially of the shape of the pedals. SoS.
