  • Metal shortage.
  • Yep! A metal shortage.

I went down to a local re-sale shop who sells new 100 gallon pre-filled propane tanks awhile ago.

The shop owner commented that there was a shortage of new tanks due to a metal shortage.

I said "Really? is that why the price of scrap isn't up around $700 a ton or more?
If there was a shortage, scrap price would be higher, much higher than it is.
Maybe the covid caused a shortage of people in chuna."

He couldn't argue the logic and finally agreed with the logic.

    More shortages coming?

  • I need to build a shop. Wood is up, but concrete is the same price per yard it was 2 years ago. I decided to do the foundation and hope lumber prices dropped. That is when I found out rebar was in short supply.

  • Sounds like he agreed with you just to get you out of the way.

The issue isn't with the raw materials to make the steel. There's currently a surplus of scrap steel. The issue is with production, which had to be shut down for a significant amount of time, and were very slow to resume production once the economy was restarted.
