  • Hearing problems
  • Was visiting the kids and grand kids over the Holidays that we had not seen in a while, because of the pandemic. Admittedly I have gotten a little harder of hearing since the last time we visited, I had my hearing aids on and one of the kids said, "Dad if you get any more hard of hearing you are going have to learn sign language" I replied, I already know one sign. No more conversation was on that subject.

  • Man suspects his wife is going deef and asks his doctor how to find out.
He tells him to go home and when you are in the living room and she is kitchen ask her a question.
See how close you have to get before she responds.
That night, "Honey, what's for dinner?" No response.
He get's closer and ask's again. No response.
Closer even more and ask's again. No response.
Finally frustrated, walks up right behind her and ask's again.
She blurts out, CHICKEN FOR THE 4TH TIME YA' DEEF BAS****!"

I am not deef. Just tone deef to the wife's tone.
Like today when I told her I bought a new orange interloper.
Not really, just looking for a response.
I will probably really look again in a few more months.

  • For TV I don't have a problem. I've got a set of wireless headphones made by Sennheiser that receives in stereo that work great...except when the music in the scene is louder than the speech, then I'm constantly saying "What did he/she say".
My wife has a set also, even though she has good hearing. She said it is just more comfortable hearing in stereo when watching a movie.

  • I hear you, same problems. I have two high dollar Starkey's, one was bad from day one, 1-1/2 years later they caved in and replaced it. A year later they both went dead and they replaced them both. They have AI which I hate, its high tech gone berserk. Now they say that they being three years old I need the new technology ones from Starkey for $6500-9500. Mine would work fine if it were not for the high tech Artificial Intelligence that normally usually filters out Voices, TV etc. That they are supposed to enhance. I like the big TV with captions idea, just a few hundred bucks!

  • LMAO. My wife and I both wear hearing aids. Never quite in sync. TV may be too loud
for one and too quiet for the other. We do not use sign language.

  • Your wife must have excellent hearing to hear me. I am just a quiet bug. LOL
My wife is on her 3rd set of hearing aids. I'm on my second set. Our current ones are Phonak re-chargeables. They are Bluetooth connected to our cell phones. We can adjust volume, connect to TV and even answer our cell phones by touching the hearing aid when the phone is in another room. (I don't use that out in public. Funny farm candidate talking to myself)
My wife does, on certain occasions, still use her battery aids. She did yesterday for her hair appointment. I still have mine as emergency backup.

  • I wear two hearing aids and still cannot hear TV at any volume. I think my wife can hear John in Mich. in normal conversation without any aids. She watches and listens to TV when it is totally mute to me with my aids.

  • My wife is near stone deaf. (heriditary). Went through many different sets of hearing aids without success. Paid $6000 for a set which now resides in a drawer. Finally she tried a set made in Denmark. Best she has had! Has an adapter which connects to the television so she hears it through her hearing airs. Works great! She can actually go into the back yard while hearing television. Biggest problem is she cannot hear me so conversation is limited. Also has another adapter for the telephone but we have not got that working yet. Round numbers, another $6,000 but it's worth it! I'm getting to the place where I could benefit from hearing aids also. Particularly in a group.

  • I have been using the hearing aids that are rechargeable, but no bluetooth. TV is really nice now, since I can adjust to what ever volume it is set at. I tell my wife to fix it where she needs it, and I'll adjust my aids to match. Works well for us.

There are times I need to go up or down, mainly due to background noise. Mine are compatible with regular telephones, so I can answer the phone at work with no problems.

They have been a lifesaver for me.

  • Morning guys, My wife says that maybe I'm getting a little harder of hearing but I will never admit it. I solved the problem with the TV though. Bigger TV and subtitles work great.....

  • I recently, through the VA, had tow hearing tests. Both confirmed my hearing loss and presently have a 10% VA disability. Having said that, they have given me hearing aids. They offered the rechargeable version or the battery versions. I opted for the battery versions. They are the Evolv by Skarkey. They work perfectly and best yet they are offered free by the VA. I use to watch tv with a headset, not any more. They also sent a obscene supply of batteries for free. Any veterans on this group, contact your local.
