One day when my parents were in their 50’s, my mother called and said that my dad wanted some help with a problem in the bedroom ceiling fan. It had been making a loud squealing noise and he couldn’t figure out why. I went over and found my dad had completely disassembled the fan in pieces all over the bed and the loud squealing was still present. I looked at the motor and it was not coming from that, so I started looking around the room. Behind the dresser there was a smoke detector on the floor. I picked it up and removed the battery and the squealing stopped. Then I reinstalled the fan. We had a good laugh.
