  • Computer question.
  • Lap top computer is an older Toshibo. Cable company sent me a 5G modem. Toshibo is 2.5 G at best. New computer and phone can find the new modem. Blink security and Toshiba can not locate / not listed, modem. Internet is working on the Toshiba via a cable.
Can I upgrade the Toshiba to 5G, so it can work with the new modem, that I did not order. New laptop is about $600-

  • If you are trying to connect your Toshiba via wireless connection to your modem/router, you will have to replace the wireless comm. controller on your motherboard. I recently had to do this on an older Lenovo laptop of mine. Go to the Toshiba site and then the support section, enter your Toshiba model, and see if they even offer an upgraded controller. If you can get one, you open up the bottom, find the current one, remove it, and insert the replacement.

If not available and you have an open USB slot, you can get a USB wireless comm. connector. I've used them in the past and they work ok.

  • Thank you ED. I will check next week when I am back on the Island.
The security cameras are all 2.5 G as well, and do not work. I will also phone the cable provider and ask about 2.5 G service, and why they needed to upset my day by changing things. At the moment the internet is working via a cable, rather than wireless.
