  • Son in hospital
  • Our oldest son (57) fell off his barn roof, today. He is now in ER. Broken right femur near the hip and broken right arm above the wrist. He will be getting some surgeries Tomorrow and Tuesday. He and my grandsons are building a barn, 40x64. Today they were supposed to finish the roof steel. Nope. He slipped and fell near the peak and slid all the way off the roof extension over the service door, about 10' above ground. Velocity sent him about 7' beyond.
I just texted his wife and said that Marines don't lay around!

  • All I can say is Thank God. It has been 3 weeks since Rick had surgery for his broken leg and broken arm. Today, he had a follow up exam with his surgeon and the removal of the staples in the surgical incisions.
Using a walker, he can walk in the house where he needs to go AND while sitting can remove a splint on his arm that replaced his cast. He can shower on his own as well.
He still needs help with his recliner and to initially stand up. We offered our powered recliner, but space is limited.
Thank you all for your support.

  • Update Son in hospital
  • HOME! Rick went home this afternoon. We were going to visit and Kathy said his discharge papers had been completed. When he texted me that they were in the car I said, "stop by for a beer". LOL
We are going to visit him tomorrow and are taking a 12 pound ham as welcome home.
I'm sure beer is out of the question. LOL

  • Update, Son in hospital
  • Had some good news, today. Our son has been out of bed and "walked" to a chair in his hospital room, yesterday. Today he had surgery to set his arm. If therapy goes well tomorrow, he might go home tomorrow.

  • Medical science always amazes me. Our son injured on Saturday, Dec 2, had a temporary cast put on his right arm to stabilize it. On Sunday, Dec 3, he had surgery on his right leg near the hip, installing a stainless rod and nails. He was out of bed and in a chair today for about a half hour.
We visited him this afternoon. He was in good spirits and is having surgery in the morning on his arm. He is planning to be home by this weekend. Wow!
My wife had a similar break in her right leg in 1951. She was in the hospital for a month in traction. That was followed by a body cast from her upper abdomen to her right ankle and to her left knee for 3 months. Medical science!

  • Medicine has really advanced in our lifetime, John. Knee and hip replacements are now outpatient surgery. I'm glad that your son will be home soon.
