  • It appears to me that this was another democrat gorilla action against our country. What treasonous actions are to follow? The shadow government lead b y Pelosi, Schumer, Rice, Jarrett, Obama will stop at nothing to destroy our Republic. God help us all when the Camel is elevated to President. Probably happen before mid to late summer.

  • It is interesting to note that after the payment, the decryption software they received from the hackers was so inefficient and slow, that the company ended up using their backup files to recover. I agree that this has happened before and will definitely happen again. The only reason it was so public is because of the impact.

  • Which begs the question - if you can recover from backup why pay for a decryption key? The answer is simple - laziness. Colonial nets around $500M annually and pays all of that out as dividends. So a $4M or $5M charge is pretty much noise, less work, and possibly cheaper than doing it from backup. Especially when you can charge the ransom payment off as a loss.

This ransomware threat is not new to people in the IT business and there have been dozens of such events in the news recently. A local government agency just got hit here today. Colonial was just more spectacular and far reaching so it made headlines.
