  • Speaking of car batteries...
  • General Motors has temporarily shut down its plant in Orion Township, Mich., where its all-electric Chevy Bolt is manufactured, as the automaker recalls 141,000 of the cars over exploding lithium-ion batteries, idling several hundred workers.

The problem, which has yet to be solved, is the latest setback for the automaker giant as the company attempts to convert production to all-electric vehicles by 2035, the Washington Post reports.

  • Back in 1899, a Swedish inventor developed the NICD battery. He experimented with using iron in place of cadmium to save cost. It had a slower charge time and a greater out gas of hydrogen so he abandoned it. 2 years later Thomas Edison patented it and started a the Edison Battery company to make batteries for electric vehicles the company made NIFE batteries until 1972 and was sold to Exide which closed it in 1975. The batteries can survive many charge cycles and is rated a lifespan of 30 - 100 years. It is completely recyclable and has no environmental issues. When. I was a teenager, I saw the car that Edison owned at his winter home in Fort Myers, FL. The placard said that the battery still holds a charge.

  • I just paid a premium for old technology. 007 Chevy short box 2WD 4.3 pushrod V6, 3 speed auto, wind up windows, no remote key for the doors. Works for me. Put I can not figure out the new fancy radio, that has a screen pop up when the open button is pressed. My buy a low tech radio.
Battery powered bicycles are popular on my Island.

  • As previously stated, absent mandates, I will believe that 2035 commitment only when I see it.

  • The road leads to hydrogen powered vehicles. The next president , if he has any brains, will reverse this executive order. We can use the usual suspect state, California, as the proving ground.
