  • Flex Alert or Idiot Governor Alert?
  • Is this an upside-down marketing campaign for EVs? Or does it just illuminate how self-destructive "progressive" policies are?

Authorities in California extended a “Flex Alert” telling residents to conserve energy, including not charging their electric vehicles, on Sunday afternoon and evening.

The alert has been in effect for several days in the midst of a heat wave that is slated to last through Labor Day.

The California Independent System Operator, the manager of the state’s power grid, issued the statewide Flex Alert from 4 to 9 p.m. Residents are urged to set their thermostats to 78 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, avoid using major appliances, avoid charging electric vehicles, and turning off unnecessary lights.

“Additional Flex Alerts will likely be called as heat will only intensify through Tuesday, with little relief from triple-digit temperatures seen over the next several days,” the operator wrote. “Daytime high temperatures are forecast at 10-20 degrees above normal in much of the state through the Labor Day weekend and into next week, and record-breaking heat is projected in some parts of California.”

  • Our governor is an idiot. I am convinced he actually believes his BS. Kansas is looking better every day (my kids live in Wichita)

  • Not a lot of room to talk there, skippy. When you wrap yourself in a glass house, you need to be careful when you heave stones around.

Virginia is right on the heels of California when it comes to electric vehicles in the United States. For example:

Virginia's Drive Electric Fall Festival this month.
Virginia's Electric Fleet Legislative Summit this month.
Virginia's Electrics and Espresso Car Meet this month.
Virginia's Drive Electric Day this month.
Virginia's Clean Energy Summit-focuses on wind, solar, EVs, and other "clean" energy solutions (next month).
Virginia's Rocktown Energy Festival next month.
Virginia's Annual Drive Electric Forum (November).

Virginia is a solidly blue state where Obama, Hillary, and Biden all handily won. Your House of Delegates contains transgenders, as well as a self-declared socialist. The Virginia Clean Economy Act mandates the phaseout of fossil fuel power generation by 2045, and by their own admission that will lead to regular power shortages. Dominion IRP states that they can't back up the wind and solar requirement with imported power, because they don't believe that imported power will still be widely available.

So tell me, where's the difference between California and Virginia (except for the weather)?

  • Well, I'll tell you the difference, cupcake. Those laws/regulations/agreements were implemented by two uber-progressive Governors like Newsome. We now have a governor with some common sense who has committed to undo all the crap.

Your info is dated - Virginia is barely purple. We elected three solid Republicans to the three highest offices, and Republicans control the House of Delegates. After the November 2023 elections, we will hold the State Senate, too and whatever is left of those progressive policies will be gone.

    How's your state doing, sweetheart?

  • I thought that cold was going to be the big problem for electric cars in northern states. Minnesota Auto Dealers Association is saying that electric vehicles don’t perform well in their typical below zero winters. New York is said to follow California.

  • Sounds like EVs need to start selling with heated bumpers to make them more comfortable to push, huh?

  • Unfortunately, the bumper heaters don’t work when the battery is dead. They just need a diesel powered plow truck to push them off to the side of the expressway.

  • It may be interesting to note that an electric vehicle should never be towed. It can damage the drive motor. It is recommended that you load it on a flatbed.
