  • GAS CAP EXCHANGE
  • Here's the posting regarding the Ford Tractor gas cap exchange program, still active. It covers ALL Ford gasoline powered farm and industrial tractors produced since 1939. All the info is included in the Service Bulletin pictured below. The next photo shows the old, original 8N gas cap on the left, the new, vented one on the right with the box it came in and the two decals included. The CNH part number is: E5NN9N208CA. You'll need to take your old cap in for the exchange and give them your tractor model and serial number. The one pictured is for an 8N.

  • I got a free cap exchange 24 years ago on my Ford.Farmall offers the same deal.Tsc will sell you a vented cap for a low price.Ford tank vents often plug up and this pressurizes the gas tank.Boiling gas doesnt have to ignite to give you bad burns. We understood the problem in the 50s about not opening gas tanks on hot tractors. The current crop of fellows who play with tractors are not to smart.A lot of them want to play with a hand crank, the old timers know better.

  • I just got off the phone with my local NH dealer, he looked it up and said the program ended. Is there anything coming from CNH that says it's still good?

  • Took my 8N gas cap to the New Holland dealer in Garner, NC for an exchange. Sadly there was no exchange because, according to the parts man, the program ended in 1989.

Is anyone aware of current Ford/New Holland service bulletins that would help me convince my New Holland dealer to make an exchange for the sake of safety?

Thanks for the heads up on old gas caps.

  • Charles-
Your CNH dealer is lying to you... the program is still active as my dealer verified the Service Bulletin itself. If you want a cap, callScott at Sweigard Bros. in Halifax, PA as hewill get you one...seems your dealer didn't want to 'give' away a $43.00 gascap...

  • I called two New Holland dealers that I have purchased tractors from recently . I inquired about the fuel cap replacement(retrofit program- service bulletin 1993/10-T2) Both called New Holland about the program . Both stated that the program ran from 1983 to 1995 and no longer was being applied. They stated that the price of a retrofit gas cap was $43.00 dollars One dealer is in Western Pennsylvania and the other is located in Northeastern Ohio

  • Hi Gary-
The SAFETY post was pulled from the Sweigard NH web site where they have it posted. Most CNH dealers don't advertise the free exchange because they want you to buy a new cap. I took the posting to my CNH dealer last week and he looked it up in a huge 4-inch thick book of Service Bulletins. Lo and behold he already had a copy too, and acknowledged it was still good. I simply gave him my old cap and 8N s/n and was good to go. After the issue I had with boiling my gas, I searched here for the info and was surprised to see it wasn't posted on our SAFETY forum so I did. Now anyone having the same problem can archive search or come here first and get the poop.

  • In Regard to the gas cap exchange. I called a New Holland dealer in NH and asked about the exchange program. He looked it up while I was on the phone, and told me, yes he had the bulliton on the recall and it was still in effect. Said he would have to order the cap, and it would be in in a few days. He called me the day before Christmas to tell me it was in. I went up to get the cap the first of the next week. I got the new vented cap. Told him my serial number, and turned in my old cap. The recipt was written on in red pen, "Just give to customer" Price of cap would have been, $51.31, according to the typed in amount on the bottom of the recipt. I want to thank I believe Tim Daley for the heads up about the cap.

  • Picked up my new vented cap last week. Apparently the bulletin is still in effect over 2 years since the last post.

  • Hello TB:
Yes, I had heard about the gas cap exchange on the Ntractor Club. I exchanged mine about two years ago. Gave the NH dealer my old cap and tractor serial number. Got a call to pick it up about a week later. I had read where some dealers have said the offer is not valid anymore, but I believe it is. Tom Craig
