As I look over this 8N and compare it to the research I've done, it seems to be more of a mystery. The serial number on the engine block is too hard to read - almost impossible. It has the side distributor, but the oil filler tube is in a location that it would be on a front mount distributor engine, as Ford move the oil filler tube so that the generator can be mounted on the left side. This tractor has been converted over to 12V, so they were able to mount the alternator away from the filler tube.
The steering box is from an early 8N, and the clutch linkage is from an early '47 8N. It's possible the engine got replaced by a side distributor one, but the oil filler tube defies that it was a side distributor engine. Was there an aftermarket kit to convert a front mount to a side mount distributor?
