I need to replace a 9N-10000-C generator on a (6 volt) 1941 9N tractor. I bought a new 8N-10000 that I understand is the available upgrade. It has the same 3rd-brush screw-adjustment and the same (A)rmature-terminal as on the old 9N-10000-C. It also has in the barrel side near the (A)-terminal what I understand to be two threaded holes for the (G)round-terminal and the (F)ield-terminal.
My interpretation (after reading through the fine but incomplete onsite-documentation that I was able to find) is that there are two options for installing the replacement/upgrade 8N-10000-C : First option, install it as a single-wire, 3-brush generator with the (A)-terminal connected to a new 9N-10505A Cut-Out (regulator), such as was installed the first upgrade 2N-10000 in 1945. The second option would be to install it as a three-wire, 2-brush generator with the (A)-,(G)-,(F)-terminals connected to a new 8N-10505-C Voltage Regulator. My question : Is this interpretation of the two options correct? Any guidance would be highly appreciated by this Newbie.
