With those symptoms I would be looking at the ignition. Is this a front mount or a side mount distributor.
I would open the distributor and clean the points as a good starting place. A piece of cardboard, say match book cover, pulled between the points may be all that is required. The file, as has been suggested, may be required.
If a side mount you can pull the wire from the center turret of the distributor, place it close to the block, and short across the points to see if that gives you spark.
IF YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE DUST COVER TO ACCESS THE POINTS WATCH YOU DO NOT LOOSE THE SPRING UNDER THE ROTOR!
That loader compounds the problem as it makes access very difficult.
