Randy-
Here is a taste of the wiring sketches from the MPCs for the 9N. In addition to the start pushbutton switch, there is a switch behind the dash. Don't confuse it with roundcan cutout for the GEN. They are two different animals. The start pushbutton can go bad, but I'd perform a thorough true root cause problem solving method first. Is it the OEM 6V/POS GRN setup? Yank out battery and take to a shop to be tested under load on their machine. While out, go thru the entire wiring system. If 6V, should be a 1-Wire/3-Brush GEN with the roundcan cutout. The GEN must have a belt tensioner or else it won't charge battery. Also there is a 1-Wire starter motor and NO solenoid; the Ballast Resistor; Front Mount Distributor; Ammeter, ignition switch, and if any lights, disconnect for now. N's never had lights from the factory -always optional dealer accessories and often were hooked up by the farmer and often wrong. 12V conversions are notorious for mucked up light wiring.
