When I bought my 8N in 2015, the previous owner had installed a Exide 8 volt battery from tractor supply. A few years ago, it would not hold a charge (I bought a battery tender 8 volt charger before then) so, I went to tractor supply and put in a new one. Last fall I tried to start the tractor the starter did nothing. I pulled the battery and charged it, reinstalled it and still nothing. I am not sure if the battery is bad or if the starter and solenoid are the problem. It was getting cold, so I took out the battery and float charged it over winter. I am going to troubleshoot the starter this spring.
My question is, since I canít get 8 volt batteries anymore and really didnít want it when I bought the tractor, how do I determine if the regulator was adjusted for 8 volts unless I can get the tractor started? Should I just buy a new regulator so I donít fry a new 6 volt battery?
