N-Complete. An interesting former business near Anderson, Indiana. Years ago, I had occasion to buy parts from them and actually visit their remanufacturing facility with a private tour of operations.
Years later I was at an auction in Battle Creek, Michigan. There was an early 9N disaster on the block. It had a welded block, scab tires and a welded aluminum hood.
Any other N in that condition would have sold for scrap.
I looked it over and thought I could do something with it and set in my mind to bid up to $1000. Then I looked around the bidder crowd and I saw Tom Armstrong, N-Complete.
When bidding started it was wild! I watched Tom and another bidder go head to head.
WOW! Selling price to Tom...$7000.
I got to talk to Tom afterwards and asked him about it. He said he would probably put another $10,000 into restoring it.
I know that it was later sold at auction for a very high price but I do not remember what the amount was.
There was a downside to this story that sort of teed me off. I also spoke to the opposing bidder about the price. He said he didn't have that kind of money. He just wanted to see how high Tom would bid.
